Turtle Mountain Mural

Turtle Mountain owner Nico Ortiz donated a recycled vinyl banner to Stapleton and a few fifth grade students used permanent markers to create a mural with a turtle theme. The mural is now on display in the hall near the banquet room in Turtle Mountain Restaurant. Thank you Turtle Mountain!

“A Chair’s Journey to A Park Above”
I was living in a cabin near Heron Lake, New Mexico. My parts started wearing down, so I was put outside to enjoy the weather of Northern New Mexico. My days were spent watching deer, elk and various birds flying by. Someone noticed me, put me in a truck and drove me to a school. In this place, numerous things happened to me. I was sanded, plywood was placed in open areas, acrylic seal was spread all over, glass globs and tiles were glued everywhere, grout was put in between the tiles and a sealant was spread on top of all of it. The tiles are decorated with beautiful butterflies. Many students participated in this endeavor and now I have learned that I will live the rest of my life in a park. This park is open to all people with all types of disabilities and will be the first one like it in New Mexico. I will no doubt enjoy being in the outdoors again and sharing my beauty with all who visit the park!
